This is a Counsel 4 position in the Corporate Regulatory Section of the Enterprise Risk, Regulatory & Audit Division of the Wells Fargo Legal Department. Attorneys in the Section provide legal advice and counsel to Business Groups and Enterprise Functions, including Public Affairs.
This Counsel 4 position will provide legal advice and counsel to the Company’s Public Affairs function, including with respect to one or more of the following areas: political law, including campaign finance, lobbying, and government ethics and political conflicts-of-interest; corporate social responsibility; and philanthropic activities and initiatives.
The successful candidate will have experience or proficiency in one or more of the following areas:
Researching, analyzing and advising on state and federal laws or principals and standards related to political and lobbying activities; corporate philanthropic and community relations activities; or social responsibility positions (including those related to sustainability, human rights, or diversity and inclusion matters)
Analyzing changes in legislation and regulations in these areas, and providing legal advice and counsel on the implications of these changes to operations and activities
Communicating legal requirements to all levels within a company, including to senior management
Advising compliance and risk management partners in the above areas and supporting them in the development of related policies, procedures and controls
Working with cross-functional disciplines within the Company in the development of social responsibility positions
Reviewing and advising on legal documentation associated with corporate charitable giving
The position is expected to be based in Charlotte, NC, Minneapolis, MN, New York, NY, or Washington, D.C.
8+ years of experience as a practicing attorney; or 6+ years of experience as a practicing attorney and 2+ years of legal-related experience in one or a combination of the following areas: risk, compliance, contracts, government, regulatory, financial services, or technology
Active State Bar membership
Ability to analyze legal and regulatory issues in area of practice and provide effective advice to clients on complex legal matters
Extensive experience conducting research and providing counsel and guidance regarding complex legal issues
Strong attention to detail and accuracy skills
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work while handling multiple matters
Ability to work effectively in a complex environment with a high degree of collaboration
Effective in building partnerships, functioning well with project teams, and working for the success of the team
