We are looking for a vibrant, driven and well decorated strategic business leader whose full gamut experience in legal, regulatory and cross functional business has made you a leader in your field. You have a mix of experience ranging from overseeing day to day legal in a growth company, to leading tenant and contract law enquiries.

You have learned how to rapidly and safely support a growing business in a highly innovative and regulated space while creating and maintaining sustainable competitive advantage. You see the future and support our Yugoer’s create it with your highly connected and highly trusted relationships with all stakeholders.

It’s a big job! You are a self-starter and are (relatively) autonomous, at least enough to work across multiple time zones and jurisdictions. Crucially you are passionate about and energized by new projects and creating growth and contributing to the success of the business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Organize all legal needs of company in a detailed, dynamic, and highly responsive model;
  • Drive the CEO vision to execution;
  • Full ownership over of all legal and compliance items for Yugo including but not limited to:
  • Residential Leasing and Landlord Tenant matters, Compliance related to student housing operations. Contract management including both site level, vendor and corporate level contract negotiations.
  • Litigation management and oversite.
  • Manage filings and pending regulatory/compliance claims, managing battle plans, PR, and other aspects of litigation;
  • Legal support for owner acquisitions, dispositions and financing matters.
  • Assistance in the oversite of Insurance matters
  • Recruit, expand and manage a lean internal legal team, utilizing and leading outside counsel as required;
  • Review/modify/fix all agreements across businesses for maximum value and minimal risk, including ensuring all relationships across all businesses have properly executed agreements;
  • Create a Yugo-wide legal database where all documents are tracked, organized, and updated to reflect ongoing efforts and strategy;
  • Create internal regulatory/compliance guidelines for future new product development;
  • Organize all legal items and lead litigation strategy mapped for execution;
  • In collaboration with finance, develop capital acquisition and exit strategy and advocate with all stakeholders to successfully advance high value exit.

  • Legal spend maintained within budget
  • Audit contracts as per annual schedule
  • On target average time to close a compliance matter
  • Completion of assigned projects by year end and within budget
  • Employee Engagement score >78

Experience and Knowledge
  • Bar admission and good standing in at least one state;
  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
  • A minimum of 8+ years of legal experience with corporate law within a real estate & property management industry;
  • Previous successful experience working with highly driven entrepreneurial founders and CEOs;
  • Ability to work autonomously, taking accountability without a huge team behind them;
  • Highly detailed and organized communication style, including the ability to advantage in highly charged fast moving environments;
  • You are technologically savvy, quick with tools e.g. O365, G-suite, and great at building visual reports and decision trees; and
  • Willingness and ability to work the hours it takes to be successful
