Position Overview: Role Summary: A Consumer Services Company seeks a talented, knowledgeable, entrepreneurial and self‐motivated attorney with approximately 2-8 years of relevant legal experience to serve as Corporate Counsel. This position will report directly to the Vice President, Associate General Counsel of A Consumer Services Company and will be responsible for identifying, analyzing, and handling legal, regulatory and contractual issues relating to our home service plan business. The ideal candidate will have some regulatory background in service contracts (ideally home service plans a/k/a “home warranties” or “home service contracts”) and/or relevant insurance products. However, exceptional candidates with a general litigation or transactional background, whether in house or at a top law firm, will be considered. This position requires an analytical and detailed-oriented mindset, coupled with a strong consumer protection, compliance and contract law background.
Providing high quality and effective legal advice and counsel to legal and business team members on a wide variety of regulatory, commercial, consumer protection, compliance and litigation-related issues and matters related to the continued growth and expansion of our home service plan business and related offerings.
Reviewing contractual frameworks, agreements, policies and processes associated with our home service plan business for purposes of regulatory compliance with federal (e.g., RESPA), state and local requirements applicable to home service plans.
Handling and advising on legal issues pertaining to regulatory inquires and customer service aspects of our home service plan business.
Advising on compliance with state licensure requirements.
Ensuring compliance with legal requirements and company policies generally applicable to the company business.
Working with business teams to create legally compliant approaches that meet the business objectives of new ventures.
Willingness to handle other projects and matters as may be assigned from time to time.
Working with outside counsel on various legal matters as appropriate.
J.D with 2-8 years of experience, ideally with some regulatory background in service contracts (ideally home service plans) and/or relevant insurance products, but exceptional candidates with a general litigation or transactional background, whether in house or at a top law firm, will be considered;
Experience with federal and state law applicable to home service plans and/or service contracts, consumer protection law, consumer and commercial contracts, and complex regulatory environments, is strongly preferred;
Experience handling and/or managing state licensure filings with Departments of Insurance and similar regulatory bodies is a strong plus;
Excellent attention to detail;
Demonstrated ability to handle and analyze difficult issues in a professional, constructive and proactive manner;
Must be tech-savvy and possess a strong willingness to learn;
Customer focus and “can do” attitude;
Strong issue identification and problem-solving skills;
Ability to multi-task with a sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines within a changing, fast-paced environment;
Team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills;
Good standing in an applicable state bar.
Location: Remote, but willingness to travel to business locations when safe to do so.
