Description:
As the Corporate Counsel, you will work on a dynamic team for a $150 million, multi-faceted national organization--the largest MS organization in the world, that empowers people affected by MS to live their best lives as we strive to end MS forever. This position reports to the Society EVP, General Counsel.

The location for this position is flexible. Preferred cities are Denver, Chicago, Los Angeles, Houston, and New York.

Responsibilities:
  • Use independent judgment and discretion in drafting, reviewing, interpreting, and negotiating a variety of contracts and other legal documents related to real estate, event vendors, technology, marketing, consulting, sponsorships, fundraising, and research, among others.
  • Assist in the review, revision, and development of Society contractual templates.
  • Manage contract database.
  • Provide strategic legal and business advice to facilitate long-term and short-term relationships with key partners.
  • Provide timely, concise, and balanced legal advice to staff on issues confronting the organization including technology, development, fundraising, marketing, planned giving, non-profit law, intellectual property, and risk management.
  • Respond to subpoenas and provide litigation support.
  • Draft and monitor compliance with Society policies and provide legal support for those policies.
  • Oversee the bequest administration process and supervise the Estate and Trusts paralegal.
  • Manage state and local charitable and business filings.
  • Assist with other legal and compliance needs as they arise.

Experience and Qualifications
  • Ideal candidates will have at least 6 years of experience at a law firm and/or as in-house counsel
  • License to practice law in at least one state
  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
  • Excellent contract drafting, negotiation, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to analyze, identify and make recommendations on legal issues
  • High-level of emotional intelligence with lends to candidate’s ability to interact and communicate effectively with diverse internal groups, the General Counsel, external counsel, consultants, vendors and cross-functional teams
  • Independent, self-starter who operates autonomously while being a collaborate team player
  • High integrity, strong work ethic and able to handle multiple, simultaneous projects with enthusiasm and attention to detail
  • Having a curious, solutions-oriented mindset when working with staff, leadership and business partners
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced work environment requiring flexibility and creativity in problem solving and risk assessment
  • Strong background in real estate and/or privacy law a plus
