Job Summary: The Global Retail Markets (GRM) Legal Department is seeking a highly qualified attorney to handle complex legal assignments, partner with the business in supporting and advancing the GRM strategic priorities and operate in a fast-paced and agile environment, under minimal supervision. Experience with personal lines and or small commercial insurance issues preferred. Provides legal advice and carries out actions which have an impact upon the rights, privileges and responsibilities of the Company while maintaining high standards of legal and business ethics and professional responsibility.
Provides high quality oral and written legal advice and guidance in a cost-effective manner and supports internal clients and colleagues domestically and abroad, including in the areas of insurance regulation, policy/contract drafting, litigation management and transactions.
Recommends practical courses of action to achieve client goals within the scope of what is legally permissible and applicable risk tolerances.
Performs comprehensive research and analysis of cases, statutes, regulations, and other legal materials regarding issues often characterized by an absence of clear legal precedent and renders clear and unambiguous legal opinions and advice as necessary.
Represents clients in complex legal and business transactions, generally with minimal supervision, where the facts, the law or the precedents involved can be interpreted differently or are in dispute.
Representative duties include: Drafting and reviewing legal documents (e.g. contracts, insurance policies) involving substantial legal issues; Investigation, research, drafting, negotiation and appearances on behalf of the Company in litigation, and managing outside counsel in connection with litigation; Providing advice regarding the implications of new laws substantially impacting the Company`s business; and Anticipating legal issues and encouraging practices to prevent problems from arising.
Liaises with international lawyers and may manage outside counsel work in US or internationally.
Supports the Enterprise & Function DE&I plans, through practices that deliver an inclusive environment, diversity of thought, and supporting an environment where people can do their best work.
May assign, direct, and review the work of law clerks and paralegals
May prepare and conduct training sessions for internal clients.
Maintains current knowledge of legal issues and developments in the law.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, client focus, managing multiple priorities, attention to detail and demonstrated ability to conduct research and analysis of legal issues

Personal and/or commercial lines experience and in-depth knowledge of laws, regulations and global insurance industry frameworks and in-house experience preferred
Demonstrated ability to interact with Company personnel as well as outside counsel
Completion of law school with a J.D. or L.L.B. degree and admission to the bar of at least one jurisdiction in the United States required
Generally requires at least four – six years` experience as a practicing attorney.
