You will be part of the legal team reporting to the lead attorney for the CTO’s Technology & Engineering Group. Your primary responsibilities will be to provide timely legal services to support engineering related to distribution of technical information through publications, reports and software releases and also support transactional matters. You will work with cross-functional organizations on a worldwide basis. The position will also actively contribute to the AMD’s Law Department in the ongoing development of knowledge, skills, templates and processes and support Legal initiatives and special projects as required. Job duties are expected to include:
  • Drafting and interpreting software licensing agreements, including client counseling regarding use of open source software.
  • Drafting, negotiating and client counseling related to in-bound licensing of third party technology, consortium agreements, and research activities with universities.
  • Supporting engineering compliance with US Government contracts and acquisitions of new government funded projects with an emphasis on reviewing technical deliverables and proposals and providing client counseling with assistance from other lawyers, as needed.
  • Advising paralegals in reviewing technical papers and presentations for legal compliance and be a contributing member of the cross-functional team that establishes the guidelines and processes for review of such publications.

  • A law degree and, preferably, a bachelors degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, similar degree, or equivalent experience in the semiconductor industry.
  • 3+ years of experience preferably with some in-house corporate legal department experience.
  • Understanding of open source licenses and preferably, experience advising engineering on compliance with the licenses.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements, including inbound/outbound technology licensing agreements, university agreements, consortium agreements, and NDAs, is preferred.
  • Ability to make sound judgments and recommendations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with a broad audience including engineering, program management, and finance professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively on cross-functional projects and in a matrix environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize workload and competing priorities.
  • Efficient, effective and well organized and enjoys learning about cutting-edge technology.
  • Customer service oriented.
  • Strong academic and professional credentials; admission to Texas/California bar as applicable.
