About the position:
The Attorney – Civil is primarily responsible for representing the Maricopa County Attorney's Office (MCAO) in hearings on petitions for mental health treatment, reviewing cases involving danger to others for referral to law enforcement, and providing periodic legal training to crisis management workers involved in the civil commitment process

Juris Doctor or Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from an American Bar Association (ABA) approved law school.
Two (2) years of civil practice experience.
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain a current, valid AZ Driver License at time of hire.
- Must have current Arizona Bar license and number, and be in good standing with Arizona Bar Association.
Note: The Maricopa County Attorney's Office requires a thorough background check of all successful candidates and is authorized to test prospective employees for the presence of illegally accessed drugs. Testing is conducted once an offer has been extended and prior to placement.

Direct civil trial experience in Arizona.
Essential Job Tasks
- Performs complex legal work and is responsible for legal matters involving Maricopa County.
- Attends hearings in court and communicates effectively.
- Conducts research and analyzes legal issues using both computerized legal research and hard copy tools.
Office and court room settings in high volume, fast-paced environment with frequent stressful situations. May require long periods of sitting while completing paperwork, standing and moving about during course of performing duties. Ability to travel to and from various county locations for court appearances, meetings and trainings, utilizing personal or county owned vehicle. Ability to move up to 20 pounds.

Typically, successful candidates are hired at a salary rate up to midpoint of the range, based on applicable experience, internal equity and budgetary allowances.
