Associate Principal Counsel - Marketing And Sales

The Walt Disney World Legal Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Associate Principal Counsel (“APC”) on the consumer direct, group sales and merchandise team, which provides legal advice to various sales and marketing business areas within the Disney Parks, Experiences and Products segment of the Walt Disney Company, including Merchandising and Synergy Marketing. The APC will report directly to the Assistant Chief Counsel of the team and will receive team paralegal support.

  • Provide legal advice for the advertising and sale of products and services and for other commercial transactions at the Walt Disney World Resort
  • Draft and negotiate complex supplier, license, sponsorship and services agreements
  • Draft promotion agreements, rules and disclosures and provide legal advice relating to sweepstakes, contests and other promotions
  • Review creative content to ensure compliance with advertising law and policy and internal company guidelines
  • Provide legal advice and act as a strategic thought partner throughout various stages of product development
  • Coordinate with internal tax on domestic and international tax considerations
  • Manage outside counsel and legal matter budgets

Basic Qualifications:
  • An attorney with a minimum of 5 years’ experience specializing in issues relating to advertising and sales
  • Proven knowledge of consumer protection laws and regulations, including FTC and advertising industry policy
  • Excellent drafting and contract negotiation skills
  • Ability to work independently, with some supervision, on complex projects and assignments
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and analyze issues, evaluate risk and exercise sound legal judgment
  • Self-motivated and ability to multi-task and work quickly, efficiently and collaboratively under tight deadlines
  • Working knowledge of privacy and intellectual property laws to coordinate these matters with subject matter experts
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and client relationship skills
  • Must be team-oriented and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a solution oriented, problem solving approach to legal issues
  • Ability to provide direction to paralegals

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with retail sales and product labelling a plus
  • Experience with customs and trade laws and regulations a plus
  • Admission to the Florida bar preferred; eligibility for Florida Authorized House Counsel status, if not already admitted to the Florida Bar

Required Education:
  • Law degree from an accredited law school
