We have an immediate need for an associate legal counsel to support our futures, equities, and fixed income trading platforms, including two affiliated broker-dealer proprietary trading firms. The successful candidate will be based in Chicago and report directly to the firm’s General Counsel.
About you: The successful candidate will support our senior legal counsel and management by:
Developing a comprehensive understanding of the firm’s global legal agreements, including employment, membership, brokerage, licensing, financing, investment, acquisition, and other commercial agreements
Strategically negotiating the firm’s commercial agreements in a manner mindful of both business goals and legal implications
Performing due diligence in connection with new business ventures and opportunities
Researching existing laws and proposed or newly promulgated rules and regulations
Exhibiting sound judgment in assessing the quality, accuracy, and relevance of information
Deriving reasonable conclusions and rendering reliable advice and work product based on relevant information and applicable law, including FINRA, SEC, CFTC, and exchange rules
Employing an entrepreneurial and proactive mindset to identify innovative solutions to novel questions of law or policy and other business challenges
Concisely and effectively communicating with firm personnel at all levels, including supervisors, coworkers, traders, and support staff
Appropriately organizing work and setting priorities to timely achieve both short and long-term goals
Assisting in managing and resolving disputes and litigation as needed
The successful candidate will:
Possess a J.D. degree from an accredited and well-respected U.S. law school
Be admitted to practice law in at least one U.S. state, preferably Illinois or New York
Have 3-5 years of experience practicing as a licensed attorney
Demonstrate a track record of success, including excellent academic credentials, evidence of excellent written communication skills, and illustrative case studies based on personal experience
Have substantial experience in financial markets, employment law, and general contract drafting and negotiation
Preferably possess experience supporting proprietary trading firms, broker-dealers, and commodity futures merchants, as well as familiarity with FINRA, SEC and CFTC regulations
Be flexible and willing to handle a wide variety of matters to support the firm, even if they are outside your usual comfort zone
Intuitively exhibit impeccable ethical standards
