Overview
The Associate General Counsel is accountable for supporting the legal affairs of the organization, including internal and external legal counsel and guidance in any area required to ensure maximum protection of the organization's legal rights. The individual in this role should stay fully informed of all new developments in corporate legal matters and ensure that all levels of management are informed of applicable new laws as well as any progress or results of court cases of interest to the business.

This position is also responsible for coordinating projects assigned by the General Counsel. The AGC shares responsibility for leading law firm and third - party vendor negotiations, developing pricing strategies, conducting RFPs (Request for Proposals), tracking and coordinating outside counsel fee arrangements and driving other cost control initiatives. It may also include a focus on data security and privacy regulation, insurance or employment law.

This position coordinates projects as assigned by the General Counsel. In addition, this position shares responsibility for leading law firm and third - party vendor negotiations, developing pricing strategies, conducting RFPs (Request for Proposals), tracking and coordinating outside counsel fee arrangements and driving other cost control initiatives. It may also include a focus on data security and privacy regulation, insurance or employment law.

This role also keeps fully informed of all new developments in corporate legal matters and keeps all levels of management informed of applicable new laws and of the progress and results of court cases.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  • Accountable for guidance on legal affairs of the company and acts as an advisor to senior business executives on issues of ethics, compliance, and other legal matters as it pertains to the organization;
  • Provide direction on key legal compliance issues and legal issues that could have a material impact on the company’s finances and/or reputation;
  • Negotiate key contracts, including media agreements;
  • Advise on issues concerning laws and regulations concerning data privacy and privacy;
  • Advise the company on issues relating to insurance.

Experience and Skills
  • A minimum of seven years as an attorney actively practicing corporate law, with in-house counsel experience preferred;
  • Active bar admission. Experience interacting with a Board of Directors, CEO, other senior business executives and heads of businesses is a plus;
  • Confidence and experience in relating and partnering with people in the C-suite; (is this the same as the previous bullet);
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage, including the abilities to encourage cooperation and teamwork within and across the organization and establish objectively determinable team and company goals for which the individual will be held accountable;
  • Proficiency in handling complex legal matters and experience working in diverse markets, including rigorous analytical and problem-solving skills and an ability to balance legal risks and business opportunities;
  • Proven commitment to the highest levels of ethics and personal and professional integrity;
  • Experienced business acumen and an ability to understand and navigate within the intersection between legal and business issues;
  • Excellent oral and written advocacy skills, including strong executive presentation skills and the ability to communicate with and influence senior business leaders and other stakeholders;
  • Strong interpersonal and motivational skills, positive attitude and the ability to develop collaborative relationships;
  • Strong drafting, communication, negotiation, litigation, dispute resolution, creative thinking, management and judgment skills;
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment.

Education
  • Excellent academic credentials, including a Juris Doctor or equivalent from a respected law school.
