Lyft is looking for an Associate Counsel for Subpoena Compliance to join its Legal Team! Lyft seeks a sharp, dynamic, and self-motivated attorney with at least 3 years civil litigation experience to achieve Lyft’s business goals at the intersection of law, policy, and technology. You will work closely with in-house counsel, paralegals, and subpoena compliance specialists to keep Lyft’s legal team efficient, ensure legal compliance, and mitigate risks. You will handle a range of confidential responsibilities, with a primary focus on investigating and determining responses to civil subpoenas and law enforcement requests. The successful candidate will be entrepreneurial and resourceful, skilled at building strong relationships, and comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. You will report directly to the Litigation and Safety Counsel, who manages the Subpoena Compliance Team.

  • Review and evaluate third-party information requests, with a focus on civil subpoenas and law enforcement requests
  • Create processes to streamline litigation workflows for reviewing and responding to third-party information requests
  • Research legal issues pertaining to third-party subpoenas and law enforcement requests
  • Develop, update, and manage templates for responding to third-party information requests
  • Supervise and manage subpoena compliance specialists and paralegals
  • Prepare witnesses for testimony in litigation
  • Draft responses to third-party requests for Lyft data
  • Work closely with outside counsel as needed

  • J.D. degree from a top-tier law school and membership in at least one state bar
  • 3+ years civil litigation experience at a mid to large size law firm with a preference for candidates with prior in-house experience
  • General familiarity with rules and processes applicable to civil subpoenas and law enforcement inquiries
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities, strategic thinking, judgment, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Both detail-oriented and ability to see the big picture
  • Ability to operate autonomously while being a team player, who brings a positive attitude to the workplace and is willing to jump on any project, big or small
  • Ability to communicate legal risks and recommendations to non-legal stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions and influence through excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to think quickly on your feet and simultaneously manage workloads, multiple client demands, and shifting priorities
  • Operate with high standards and ethics
  • An understanding of the multi-modal transportation and ridesharing industries as well as the sharing economy in general
