Description:
The Associate Attorney oversees the production of the Firm’s legal services in accordance with the Firm’s established policies and procedures. The Associate Attorney will work closely with other attorneys and staff to maintain and improve the current policies and procedures in place. With a growing firm, the successful candidate will be excited and able to team with other attorneys and staff. In-depth experience and management of the legal department must be in the areas of Estate Planning and Estate and Trust Administration. We are looking for a leader with a commitment to excellent legal services.

Responsibilities:
  • Model and encourage commitment to the Firm’s Core Values.
  • Coach, mentor, and train members of the Legal Team.
  • Develop the legal team, including attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants to enhance efficiency, process management, and team dynamics.
  • Oversee workflow of client matters and follow established policies, procedures, and workflows with regards to client matters.
  • Ensure staff is following established policies and procedures related to legal services as well as general office protocol.
  • Ensure staff is providing the highest level of client satisfaction and responding in a timely manner to all client calls, questions, or inquiries.
  • Be proactive and ensure the overall quality of documents, processes, and workflow within the Firm. Collaborate with the firm's Owner, Executive Director, and Firm Administrator on practice improvements, trends, and recommendations for enhanced client service or offerings.
  • Assist in the development of new materials, policies, procedures, and workflows to continue to improve client service experience and in-house work production.
  • Track and enter all time worked daily (both billable and non-billable).

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited school of law with a license to practice law in the state of North Carolina.
  • Not required, but preference will be given to candidates that are board-certified in elder law or estate planning and/or have an L.L.M. degree in taxation or elder law.
  • The ideal candidate will have completed at least 300 estate plans. These should include not just Basic Will Plans, but also a variety of Trust-Based Plans including Revocable Living Trusts, IRA Trusts, ILITs, Special Needs Trusts, Charitable Remainder Trusts, Asset Protection Planning, and Trust Funding.
  • Completed or managed the completion of 50 or more Estate and Trust Administration matters.
  • High-level experience and competency in Trust-based estate planning
  • Some business planning experience is also preferred such as entity selection, business succession planning, and asset protection strategies for business owners.
  • Knowledge of North Carolina Medicaid laws and Veterans Aid & Attendance pension benefits preferred but not required.
  • Prior experience with WealthCounsel and/or ElderCounsel drafting software preferred but not required.
  • Proficient computer skills: MS Office—Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
  • Excellent client relations skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A high degree of accuracy with strong attention to detail.
  • Team player with the ability to roll up sleeves, get into the details, and pitch in as needed.
  • Strong work ethic, sense of accountability, and ability to take ownership of work products, team development, and leadership.
  • Organization and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to relate to and work with the elderly, their families, and caregivers.
  • Familiarity with practice management software preferred, but not required though must be willing to adopt our practice management software and use it in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work well within a team.
  • Ability to prioritize workloads with changing priorities and manage workflow processes effectively.
  • Client service-oriented—must be passionate about helping our clients and their families; take pride in and joy in providing the highest quality services possible; be proactive in spotting additional ways we can help our clients, and enjoy creating a welcoming and warm environment.
