Purpose of the position
Assume the responsibility of operating and developing the Group Legal function in North, South and Latin America (Americas) in collaborating with the General Counsel. Cooperate closely with local and regional stakeholders on supporting the business units in the assigned geography by providing legal, business, and risk management advice consistent with company strategy and targets. Responsible for the management of the legal affairs related to the Americas region. Provide professional and client-focused legal advice and guidance consistent with an attorney-client relationship.

Key Tasks
  • Assume the primarily responsibility of the Assistant General Counsel – Americas with direct reference to the General Counsel of the DSV Panalpina group in order to create transparency towards the headquarter in Denmark;
  • Act as Business Partner to the local and regional stakeholders in the business units as well as the finance functions Regional CEO as well as senior Product and Function executives and Managing Directors within the assigned geography;
  • Serve as primary contact for any legal matter and act as legal resource for the stakeholders within the assigned geography; provide advice and opinions on (potential) legal issues and recommend the appropriate legal response or action, which best serves to protect the interest of the company;
  • Lead, manage, and coach the Legal Counsels within the assigned geography;
  • Review, draft and negotiate all kinds of legal documents, in particular commercial agreements;
  • Provide legal advice on and manage dedicated litigation; liaise and coordinate in that context with local and regional stakeholders as well as the Group internal insurance company;
  • Assess and coordinate any regulatory matters and keep abreast of any related developments in the assigned field of responsibility;
  • Support the implementation and monitor adherence to dedicated corporate initiatives and processes;
  • In agreement with the General Counsel, coordinate and monitor dedicated (corporate) legal matters, in particular:
  • General company secretarial tasks
  • M&A transactions
  • Strategic and operational alliances (Cooperation Agreements, Joint Ventures)
  • Establishment of subsidiaries, branch offices, representation offices etc. Coordinate and supervise external counsels and monitor expenditures on a quarterly basis;
  • Organize and provide training for dedicated legal topics concerning the field of responsibility;
  • Provide weekly reports on main legal activities as well as an overview of pending litigation matters on a quarterly basis to General Counsel.

  • Managerial experience is required
  • Relevant working experience in the logistics and transportation industry an advantage

Educational background / Work experience
  • Law degree; admission to the Bar
  • +10 years of professional legal experience in a corporate or law firm environment
