Job Description:
The Director of the Business Start-Up Clinic and Visiting Clinical Professor of Law will direct and teach the Business Start-Up Clinic. The professor will be responsible for all case supervision, for training and mentoring the students, and for teaching the component class that meets twice each week for two hours each session. During the periods between academic semesters, the professor is responsible for handling all cases and client matters.

Teaching and Related Duties
  • Direct and teach an eight-credit clinical program and clearly communicate course expectations to students.
  • Supervise up to ten students each semester as they work with clients in determining and facilitating their legal needs.
  • Research and recommend texts applicable to clinical program and other delivered teaching presentations.
  • Prepare, deliver, review, provide feedback on, and grade papers and other work product in a timely fashion.
  • Actively network with community organizations in order to determine community needs and to establish a client base for the clinic.
  • Work in conjunction with the Director of the RWU Minority Business Law Collaborative to expand educational experiences for students and the provision of legal services.

Additional Functions:
  • Attend and participate in events including, but limited to, monthly meetings of the clinical faculty, law school faculty meetings, law school orientation, university and law school commencement, and law school admissions and recruitment events.
  • Serve on and participate in law school committees and perform other functions expected of the faculty.

Requirements:
  • J.D. from an American Bar Association approved law school.
  • Experience working in in business law either at a firm or as in-house counsel.
  • Experience supervising law students or newly admitted lawyers.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and communication skills including public speaking ability.
  • Excellent time management skills, ability to prioritize multiple projects, meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team, as well as the ability to maintain and nurture on-going professional relationships with law students, alumni, press outlets, law firms and community-based organizations.
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:
Prior clinical teaching experience.

At the University's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
