Description:

The AmFam Trial Attorney provides legal representation, either personally or by retaining and supervising outside counsel that handles moderately complex litigation involving either the corporation and it's insured within established corporate guidelines and the applicable code of professional responsibility. You will personally handle litigation of a most complex nature involving either the corporation and it's insured within established corporate guidelines, applicable standards of good faith. You will report to the Senior Manager, Legal.

Primary Accountabilities:
  • You will handle litigation involving either the corporation and/or it's insured within established corporate guidelines and the applicable code of professional responsibility.
  • You will analyze file as litigation progresses and evaluate cases and seeks settlement.
  • You will conduct discovery (e.g. written interrogatories, requests for production of documents, and depositions).
  • You will conduct motion practice.
  • You will draft all necessary pleadings, papers and briefs to advance litigation.
  • You will conduct necessary research to support drafting activities.
  • You will advocate client position in all forums (state and federal court, alternative dispute resolution, administrative tribunals and regulatory hearings) and circumstances, both.
  • You will stay current on state statutes and court decisions and analyzes how statutes and court decisions affect the interpretation and enforceability of policy provisions.
  • You may have or develop areas of specialty practice (e.g. special property, workers` compensation, environmental law, commercial coverage).
  • You will litigate in Chicagoland area.

Qualifications:
  • Insurance litigation experience
  • Demonstrated experience preparing civil pleadings, motions and discovery and deposing witnesses.
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of Illinois rules of Professional Responsibility.
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of tort, contract, and insurance law.
  • Illinois licensed
  • Located in or near Chicago
  • Ability to travel throughout Cook and adjacent counties
  • Admission to the State Bar in state where they are located or eligibility for admission to the bar and obtaining admission within a year of hiring.
