Summary:
This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated Excepted Service vacancies. Applications will not be accepted through this flyer. Interested applicants must follow the directions in the "How to Apply" section of this flyer to be considered. There may or may not be actual vacancies filled from this flyer. Duties:
  • You will serve as the Senior Admiralty Attorney.
  • You will supervise, assist, and develop the abilities of administrative, paralegal and attorney personnel within the Admiralty Branch.
  • You will be responsible for the supervision and training of Branch admiralty attorneys and OJAG Litigation Support Paralegals.
  • You will be responsible for the prompt investigation, processing, and adjudication of claims within admiralty jurisdiction in accordance with the Suits in Admiralty Act, Public Vessels Act and other statutes and regulations.
  • You will ensure that adjudication of admiralty claims is supported by comprehensive legal research and exhaustive analyses of underlying facts and direct subordinates to take further action when necessary.
  • You will support the Department of Justice and United States Attorney's offices in admiralty litigation involving the A Government Entity.
  • You will coordinate the production of Navy witnesses and evidence; and, providing other support to DOJ, as necessary.
  • You will serve as the OJAG Litigation Support Counsel responsible for ensuring the OJAG Litigation Support Program is operating efficiently and consistent with OJAG, SECNAV, and DoD guidance.
  • You will provide civil litigation procedure and support advice to OJAG.
  • You will initiate prompt action to best defend the interests of the United States and its employees acting in the scope of their employment.
  • You will work with the Division Director and Branch Head to develop vision, goals, plans and standards for the Division consistent with OJAG missions and goals.

  • You will be required to maintain a secret level security clearance. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You may be required to perform occasional travel to CONUS and OCONUS locations.
  • You may be required to successfully complete a probationary/trial period
  • You must be in Good Standing with the Bar of the highest court of a State of the United States or a Territory of the United States

Qualifications:
Your application must show that you meet the following:
  • 1.) You are a member in good standing of the bar of a State of the United States or a Territory of the United States or sufficient proof that the same has been requested with the appropriate licensing authority.
  • 2) You have a Juris Doctorate degree, or higher level law degree, from an American Bar Association accredited law school.
  • 3) You possess at least one year of post-law-school experience performing the interpretation, analysis and application of general maritime law and relevant federal statutes, directives, regulations, and procedures related to the adjudication of admiralty claims and the provision of maritime law advice.
  • 4) You must provide a writing sample of two pages or less. The writing sample may be an excerpt of a longer document but shall not exceed two pages in actual length.

  • A Certificate or Letter of Good Standing with the Bar of the highest court of a State of the United States or a Territory of the United States that was issued within the past 3 months
  • An official transcript of your law school record together with an official statement of your relative standing in your class. However, if you have been a member of the Bar for 5 years or more, the transcript requirement may be waived.
  • An official statement that your fitness to practice law or your conduct as an attorney have never been challenged. If either your fitness or conduct has been challenged, an official statement concerning the facts and circumstances together with any explanation that you may wish to submit.

Education:
You must have a Juris Doctorate degree, or higher level law degree, from an American Bar Association accredited law school.
