The Office of Judicial Administration is responsible for the efficient administration of all agencies that operate under the direction of the Chief Justice and the Supreme Court. That includes 200 personnel; fiscal management; communication; technology; legal services; intergovernmental relations; services for the trial courts; and support for court boards, commissions, and committees. The Office is headed by Chief Administrative Officer Justin P. Forkner, who reports directly to the Chief Justice of Indiana and serves as the link between the Chief Justice and the agencies of the Court.

About the Job:
The Office of Judicial and Attorney Regulation (OJAR) has an immediate opening for an Investigation and Litigation Attorney. OJAR represents the Disciplinary Commission and the Judicial Qualifications Commission. The position requires a highly motivated and experienced trial lawyer. A juris doctor degree is required. The position serves as both an investigator and litigator of misconduct matters for the Commission. It requires extensive writing, including periodic memos reviewing allegations of misconduct and analysis of law, to aid the Commissions with charging decisions.

A day in the life:
Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Advanced knowledge of the Rules of Professional Conduct, Rules for Admission, and Discipline
  • Advanced knowledge of the Code of Judicial Conduct
  • Online research tools and docket access including Pacer, Odyssey and DoxPop
  • Keyboard typing/MS Word
  • Spreadsheet applications including Excel and Quick Books
  • Comprehensive document and evidence organization
  • Effective interpersonal communication and questioning techniques
  • Proficient in providing reports and analysis to a supervisory panel
  • Knowledgeable of administrative rule interpretation and drafting
  • Persuasive courtroom comfort and presence
  • Courtroom litigation experience
  • Unbiased investigation experience
  • Drafting legal memorandums, pleadings, and discovery responses.

What You'll Need for Success:
Juris Doctorate from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited school of law required. Must be a member in good standing of the Indiana Bar and possess significant experience as a trial attorney. Ability to complete some in-state and out-of-state travel. The position presents periodical opportunities to serve as CLE faculty.
