Overview:
Join a vibrant, dynamic, and collaborative legal team to advance the mission of A Non-Profit Health Care Provider and Hospital System – to provide exceptional health services with a passion for making lives better. This position will provide excellent legal advice and counsel to A Non-Profit Health Care Provider and Hospital System and the Head of Legal as relates to employment and labor matters for our dedicated staff of employees. This position will also be a key legal and business partner for the organization and the primary legal counsel for all employment-related matters in conjunction with the Head of Legal. The position is open to remote and hybrid opportunities.

Responsibilities:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Regular engagement with VP and senior level leaders to provide advice and counsel on a broad range of employment matters including, but not limited to, employment contracts, temporary staffing, discipline and terminations, state regulatory board reporting, and immigration compliance;
  • Draft and revise employment, locums, and staffing contracts; advise on employment related matters as necessary in support of organizational growth initiatives;
  • Provide training and support on employment and general Human Resources matters to HR and business partners, including but not limited to, FMLA, ERISA, Fair Labor Standards, OSHA, paid leave, etc.;
  • Supervise and work closely with outside counsel to timely identify and minimize business risks within budget and risk parameters;
  • Draft and negotiate employment contracts, staffing arrangements, settlement agreements, and other employment-related agreements;
  • Support the continuous improvement of process and standard form agreements/contract templates as well as employment, conduct, and conflict related policies;
  • Support and advise the Head of Legal in employee and related matters;
  • Support and advise medical staff related matters in coordination with other team members;
  • Monitor trends, best practices, and regulatory changes to support the organization in matters related to corporate compliance with employment laws;
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience:
  • Graduation from an accredited law school required.
  • At least basic knowledge of healthcare legal matters including federal and state laws, regulations and rules that govern hospital and healthcare system accreditation, certification and business practice.
  • At least basic knowledge in legal aspects of contract and agreement negotiations, practice and structure.
  • 5+ years of employment related expertise
  • Experience with health care clients and physician compensation matters strongly preferred
  • Experience or familiarity with union related matters preferred
  • Admitted to practice, or ability to become admitted as in-house counsel, in Wisconsin and or Illinois

Certification/Licensure
Licensed to practice law in the State of Wisconsin and/or Illinois

Additional Requirements:
  • Passing the Driver's License Check and/or Credit Check (for those positions requiring).
  • Passing the WI Caregiver Background Check and/or IL Health Care Workers Background Check.
  • Must be able to follow written/oral instructions.
