Job Summary:
Immediate opening for a full-time Senior University Counsel in the Office of the General Counsel of A Leading Teaching and Research Institution. The position reports to the Deputy General Counsel and Managing Attorney. General responsibilities may include overseeing litigation; managing discovery obligations (subpoenas, warrants and government inquiries); and providing advice and counsel on areas such as academic affairs, faculty affairs, research, antitrust, and university policies and procedures. This position requires discretion, flexibility, and the ability to understand and manage projects with competing interests in a constantly changing, cutting edge environment. The successful candidate must be able to work independently while also partnering and working with outside counsel and other attorneys.

Qualifications:
Candidates should have a law degree from an accredited law school and a minimum of ten years of relevant experience gained in private practice or as in-house counsel, ideally in the higher education space. Candidates should be admitted to the California state bar or able to become admitted upon assuming this role.

Requirements include excellent academic credentials, writing, analytical and communication skills as well as good judgment and a practical approach to solving legal problems.
