Description:

Purpose of Role: The Senior Law Clerk conducts extensive research and analysis of both state and federal law to resolve complex and novel legal issues, apply the pertinent laws, regulations, judicial decisions, and administrative opinions, and present oral recommendations and draft written opinions to the Judge. Handles administrative duties in chambers and assists, assigns work to, and trains term Law Clerks.

Essential Functions:
  • Provide legal support to the judge by researching relevant case law, statutes, regulations, etc.
  • Assist the Judge in preparing for oral argument and drafting opinions.
  • Oversee the day-to-day administration of chambers. Assist, assign work, and train term Law Clerks and interns.
  • Work with term law clerks, the Clerk?s office, and the other judges? chambers in circulating, approving, and filing opinions.
  • Education: Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school.
  • Experience: Two (2) years legal experience and excellent analytical, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Preferred: Prior appellate court experience.

  • Knowledge of case law, statutes, rules, court procedures, and processes.
  • Skill in filing, general office duties, and organization.
  • Skill in analyzing information.
  • Skill in written and oral briefing to convey complex legal information in a concise way to the Judge. Ability to perform legal research and understand law-related materials.
  • Ability to compose orders, memoranda, and draft opinions.
  • Ability to apply policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and laws as required.
  • Ability to use office equipment in performance of all duties.
  • Ability to perform all essential functions of this position.
