The Attorney General is the chief legal officer of the State of Maryland. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has the general charge, supervision, and direction of the State's legal business, acting as legal advisors and representatives of the major agencies, various boards, commissions, officials, and institutions of State Government. The OAG also protects the public by civil enforcement of antitrust, civil rights, consumer protection, and securities laws and regulations and by the prosecution of organized crime, Medicaid fraud, environmental crimes, insurance fraud, state tax evasion, and other statutorily assigned matters. As Maryland's 47th Attorney General, Anthony G. Brown leads the Office with a critical focus on equity, justice, and fairness.

Division attorneys advise State higher education institutions in matters involving personnel and labor issues, nondiscrimination laws, student conduct, faculty issues, torts, contracts, real estate, open government laws, and other matters relevant to public higher education institutions. Division attorneys represent State higher education institutions in litigation in state and federal courts and in matters before state and federal administrative agencies. Responsibilities for this position will include advising one or more higher education institutions and/or regional centers, responding to complaints filed with the EEOC or other governmental entities, preparing and litigating civil cases and matters to protect, assert, and/or defend the State's and represented parties' interests, and other duties as assigned. The Senior Counsel will also coordinate with other Division counsel on advice and the handling of cases and matters.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years' experience in litigation, including first-chair trial and appellate experience in State and federal courts. Experience advising clients is desirable. Excellent research and writing skills are required. Maryland Bar membership, or the ability to waive into the bar, is required.
