What will you be doing?
You will leverage both the breadth and depth of experience at a law firm and as in-house counsel and help A Media Company maintain a nimble, innovative legal organization tasked with tackling the complex legal challenges that confront our business.

This is a highly visible role in a fast-paced, professional and collaborative organization. Job Responsibilities:
  • Leadership and Management

    • Champion the Legal team's expertise and build partnerships with the Legal team across A Media Company.
    • Team management and development. Ability to inspire and energize members of the legal team and empower each member to do their best work.
    • Take ownership and accountability for key projects and decisions and see them through — ensuring the appropriate stakeholders are engaged and providing follow through and iteration.
    • Reporting and metrics. Deliver data-driven reporting that informs senior leaders on progress and effectiveness of initiatives.
  • Functional Responsibilities
    • Provide day-to-day advice to HR on a broad range of employment matters including grievance, performance and conduct management, terminations and discipline, absence issues, immigration issues, compensation, and benefits issues, leave of absence and disability issues, independent contractor issues and restrictive covenant issues.
    • Collaborate with various HR clients to support the development and maintenance of employment contracts, policies, templates, and processes to minimize employment-related risks.
    • Provide support for various global / international projects and initiatives, including support for M&A.
    • Provide support to HR and Compliance on investigations related to people, behavior and performance providing guidance and legal advice on process ensuring an appropriate resolution.
    • Deliver legal updates and trainings to HR and business managers with a view to educating and managing risks across the organization.
    • Identifies, assesses, and advises on legal risks and opportunities within the labor and employment area, including areas such as Title VII, ADEA, ADA, GINA, Equal Pay Act, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, FLSA and other wage & hour laws and regulations, EEOC regulations, and similar state and local laws and regulations.
    • Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and local labor & employment laws, regulations, and policies.
    • Independently handles legal matters and projects ranging from basic to sophisticated.
    • Handles or participates in the handling of sophisticated legal matters or projects, including managing outside counsel on employment litigation.
    • Ensures that appropriate clients and collaborators are involved in the decision-making process.
    • Develops policies and procedures within a defined practice area and/or specific geographic area.
    • Advise on other legal matters that arise across various functions within A Media Company.

Requirements:
  • 8+ years of total legal experience in labor and employment at a top tier law firm and large in-house legal department.
  • Experience handling of labor and employment matters before federal, state courts and administrative agencies.
  • Experience in counseling clients on labor and employment matters.
  • Experience advising multi-nationals on international employment/HR matters, including EWC and national works council engagement.
  • Proven track record of providing thoughtful, outside-the-box legal and strategic guidance to senior leaders.
  • Experience forging relationships and advising leaders and key stakeholders across large-scale, global companies.
  • Proven attention to detail with organizational skills.
  • As comfortable with hands-on execution in detail as in developing big-picture strategies.
  • Strong communication skills that translate complex topics into easily digestible content.
  • Direct, action-oriented approaches to solving problems.
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-changing environment.
  • A team-oriented mentality, humility, and a healthy sense of humor.
  • Experience within the technology industry is desirable.
  • D. (or foreign equivalent) with membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
