Job Description:
The position provides legal assistance to the Chief of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). The position is responsible for providing legal interpretation of statutes, rules, and case law; assisting with the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies regarding court-connected ADR in Florida; supporting court ADR commissions, boards, committees, and subcommittees; assisting with the review and analysis of legislation regarding ADR; and may supervise support staff.

Examples of Work:
  • Lead staff to Qualifications Inquiry Committee (QIC) and Rule Violation Complaint Committees (RVCCs) of the Mediator Qualifications and Discipline Review Board and the Parenting Coordinator Review Board, including facilitating and staffing meetings and hearings.
  • Manages and conducts the moral character reviews of applicants for certification as Florida Supreme Court certified mediators under the Florida Rules for Certified and Court-Appointed Mediators.
  • Functions as the administrator of the Criminal Justice Information System certification process for all ADR staff who need to be CJIS certified.
  • Conducts legal research and writing at the request of the Chief of ADR, including drafting petitions and reports regarding proposed rules, statutes, and policy revisions.
  • Assists Chief of ADR in staffing Mediator Ethics Advisory Committee.
  • Provides management, leadership, and operational assistance to the Chief of ADR. These tasks include but are limited to mentoring employees; supervision and performance management of one direct report employee who supervises one administrative assistant.
  • Assists the Chief of ADR in reviewing and drafting contracts for investigators, prosecutors, and panel advisers in connection with QIC and RVCC proceedings.
  • Assists the Chief of ADR in reviewing and drafting contracts for meetings, trainings, and conferences at hotels and the contract for services related to the DRC Conference.
  • Provides administrative support for DRC Conference functions and attend conference, as requested by the Chief of ADR.
  • Performs other related duties as needed or requested.

Minimum Education and Experience Guidelines
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school is required for this position; and
  • Three years of work experience in a law office or in the legal department of an organization is preferred.
  • Requires membership in Good Standing in The Florida Bar.
  • Additional relevant education may substitute for the recommended experience on a year-for-year basis.

  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and with Adobe DC or Pro.
  • Experience using and maintaining confidential information.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities or tasks simultaneously.
