What you can expect:
Responsible for:
  • working with development teams and providing advice regarding patent review and design options, claim coverage, and other issues that affect the design and development of orthopedic devices;
  • management of preparation and prosecution of patent applications covering the products under development;
  • developing and implementing comprehensive strategies to enhance and maintain a broad patent portfolio in a budget conscious manner;
  • performing IP due diligence for mergers and acquisitions, preparing licensing and other IP related agreements, and negotiating IP related provisions in a variety of agreements;
  • managing offensive and defensive patent litigation; and
  • providing education to design and marketing teams on basic patent law issues.

How You'll Create Impact
  • Strategically manage a portion of the company's patent portfolio including managing outside counsel regarding patent prosecution, evaluating new invention disclosures for filing, and identifying potential enforcement opportunities.
  • Integrate with design and marketing teams to anticipate patent issues and assist in providing patent perspective and advice that enables management to make business decisions.
  • Coordinate with outside counsel to assure legal services are rendered to the corporation that are results oriented, timely, competent, and cost efficient.
  • Review products that are in development and perform freedom-to-operate analysis
  • Perform IP due diligence for mergers and acquisitions.
  • Draft and negotiate IP related provisions for all types of agreements.
  • Work with outside counsel to timely and effectively protect the company's interest in offensive and defensive patent litigation, and assist in the development of the overall litigation strategy.
