A Multi-Office Law Firm has a great opportunity for a highly skilled and motivated Family Law Associate who is looking to grow their legal career. We seek a bright, hard-working associate – 3-5 years of experience in NY family law - with great research, writing, and organizational skills to work closely with our matrimonial partner as he grows his Family Law practice. As a fast-paced, busy law firm, we are in the office daily; rarely working from home. This is a great opportunity to learn from the very best.Essential Functions:
Legal:
- Provide counsel and support to clients regarding issues involving equitable distribution, child support, spousal support, and custody, along with Family Court issues such as neglect proceedings
- Prepare for depositions and court appearances, either to be assisting counsel or handled independently.
- Drafting motions, settlement agreements, prenuptial agreements, postnuptial agreements.
- Reviewing discovery and responding to Demands.
- Perform legal research using Westlaw and drafting Memorandums of Law.
- Attend meetings and conference calls with clients, prospective clients, conferences with attorneys and clients.
- Attend court appearances for conferences, oral arguments, hearings, and trials.
- Attend Networking events and participate in client development opportunities
- Attend CLE Events relevant to firm practice and development
- Oversee client matters, ensuring on-time and accurate deliverables as well as the highest levels of client service and communications.
- Build, track, and manage matter budget and billable hour allocations, ensuring appropriate levels of resources are being used.
- Providing timely communications to client related to cost overruns, ensuring client understands why additional costs need to be incurred and sign off on additional expenditures.
- Ensuring billable hours are tracked and entered into the billing system (both for self and others working on matters).
- Assisting with Accounts Receivable communications to clients, when appropriate, to ensure overdue bills are paid.
- Delegate, as appropriate, to Paralegals and Legal Assistants, and oversee activities, ensuring on-time error-free delivery of work products.
Required and Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum Education: Juris Doctorate
Required Licensure: Certified by the NY Bar Association; NJ preferred but not required.
Preferred Experience and Knowledge:
- 3-5 years of experience as an Associate focusing on Matrimonial and Family Law.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, and strong research and analytical skills.
- Flexible, collaborative team player, with a willingness to take on a variety of diverse projects.
- Good judgment.

- Aptitude for learning. Must be able to quickly understand new concepts and ideas.
