Based in Washington D.C., the Managing Attorney will work closely with the Director of Managing Attorney's Offices to develop best practices for electronic filing and docketing in the D.C. office of the firm.

This role reports to the Director of Managing Attorney's Offices.

Responsibilities include:
  • Reviews for accuracy, as to form and procedural compliance, all court documents served and/or filed through the Managing Attorney's Office-D.C.
  • Performs legal research to advise litigators on various procedural matters and to ensure compliance with court rules.
  • Provides procedural guidance and advice to lawyers with respect to motion practice, policy and procedure in Washington D.C. State and Federal Courts.
  • Assists with issues relating to service of process including engaging process servers.
  • Assists with review of new cases and rule changes to ensure that lawyers are kept apprised of recent developments under D.C. state rules, FRCP and FRAP.
  • Assists with and handles electronic case filings via CM/ECF and D.C. state court systems, in addition to hard copy filings and document retrieval.
  • Searches and extracts information from court-related databases, websites and relevant docketing and calendaring applications including, but not limited to, PACER, Bloomberg Law, CourtAlert and Westlaw.
  • Screens and reviews incoming court documents and office correspondence in order to calculate and calendar relevant deadlines using the firm's docketing system.
  • Assists with quality control of docket and calendar entries.
  • Ensures that lawyers are timely notified of filing deadlines and court appearances.
  • Collects, maintains and updates attorney information, such as bar admissions and e-filing credentials.
  • Assists with department projects as needed.

Qualifications:
  • Experience supervising other members of a Managing Attorney's Office at a large law firm preferred.
  • The position involves significant contact with lawyers, court and clerical staff. This requires solid interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be a self-starter, highly organized and a team player.
  • Must have familiarity with Washington D.C. federal and state court systems and the corresponding federal, state and court rules.
  • Able to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of personnel, including attorneys, co-workers, and administrators.
  • Must be flexible in order to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands and able to work under tight deadlines.
  • Able to plan, organize and complete multiple related activities.
  • Must deliver high quality work product and have the ability to follow up and follow through.
  • Must possess the ability to work independently, as well as on a team, in a fast-paced environment.

Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree and admission to Washington D.C. state bar required.
  • Admission to Washington D.C. state bar preferred.
  • Minimum of five years' experience in a Managing Attorney's Office at a large law firm.
