This role will report the Vice President of Legal and General Counsel and will be part of A Cross-Generational Brand Company's lean legal team supporting the North American business. The role will be the primary support for, and work very closely with, members of the real estate team. It is a fast paced, exciting environment where the results of your work are often quickly realized in our business performance.

Your role as Legal Counsel, Manager Real Estate:
  • Draft, review, and lead lease negotiations for a high volume of new leases, lease amendments, and related documents for real estate matters with major and independent landlords in the US and Canada in partnership / collaboration with the real estate team
  • Review and prepare estoppel certificates, SNDAs, easement agreements and other documents needed in the ordinary course of lease administration
  • Provide fast and efficient advice and counsel to the real estate team, assisting in ensuring our leases are as favorable as possible, and manage complex legal and transactional issues relating to A Cross-Generational Brand Company's expansion plans and strategy
  • Review and advise on lease related matters in acquisitions and dispositions
  • Assist with documentation review and negotiation for store construction agreements and related documents
  • Provide legal support for real estate related disputes and litigation
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments related to real estate compliance matters
  • Provide legal support with general corporate/miscellaneous matters as needed (e.g., review of vendor contracts, non-disclosure agreements)

  • A juris doctorate from an accredited US law school
  • Licensed to practice law in the US
  • At least 7 years of experience with complex retail leases in malls, life-style centers, and high street locations
  • A strong foundational knowledge of current retail store lease practices and trends and the ability to take lead in negotiations with landlords
  • Ability to work independently, with some supervision, on complex transactions
  • Prior in-house experience in consumer products and/or retail sectors is preferred
  • Must be detail oriented and interested in personal and organizational improvement
  • Previous experience partnering with various levels stakeholders in the organization and operating in a matrixed environment
  • A legal mindset that adapts to business requirements and priorities and a problem solving mentality
  • A strong networking capability with like industry legal counsel and outside attorneys
  • Ability to manage outside counsel as needed
