Job Summary:
This position will provide legal support to A Government Entity. The individual in this position will be responsible for assisting MNIT's Legal Office to ensure MNIT's compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations. The individual in this position will assist with processing data requests, conduct legal and policy research, and produce written products for a variety of audiences and purposes.

This is a limited, full-time position, with an anticipated duration of four (4) months, with the possibility of extension.

This position is currently eligible for full-time telework:
  • Telework for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies in St. Paul, Minnesota.
  • Only candidates located in Minnesota and bordering states (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) are telework eligible.

Education:
Student Worker eligibility-To be eligible for appointment as a Student Worker you must be a student enrolled in an educational program or planning to enroll within three months. Students may be "off" for the summer or for one semester/quarter and remain employed as student workers, but such absences cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year. As a student you must be enrolled in high school or in a post-secondary or graduate program. If a student is enrolled at a credit-granting institution he/she must carry at least six semester (nine quarter) credits. If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, a student must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter. Any lesser credit (class) load shall be treated as a semester/quarter off. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or making progress on a dissertation. You will be asked to complete an Educational Verification form prior to appointment.

Accepted academic programs include accredited programs in legal studies.

Experience:
  • Completed one year of school from an accredited law school.
  • Foundation in the principles and practices of legal research and writing.
  • Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.
  • Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with state and federal laws.
  • Ability to advise and assist the General Counsel's Office in development of responses for legal advice.
