Description:

The IFP Project Attorney provides direct counsel and/or representation to survivors of domestic, dating and sexual violence and stalking in temporary and final injunction for protection proceedings and prosecutions of violations of injunctions. The IFP Project Attorney will represent:
  • Survivors seeking temporary injunction. Once an injunction is deemed to be a safe and appropriate legal remedy, he or she will:
  • complete and file the ex-parte petition for injunction,
  • represent the survivor at the final injunction, and
  • represent the survivor after a violation of the injunction.
  • Survivors who have obtained a temporary injunction on their own and need representation at the hearing on the final injunction.
  • Survivors who have a final injunction for protection and the respondent has violated the injunction.

Additionally will provide advice and/counsel on legal issues.

Conduct extensive outreach to develop a minimum of three collaborative partnerships for the center with entities such as the clerk's office, the circuit court, law enforcement agencies, state attorneys, agencies working with LGBTQ, immigrant, and elder communities with persons with disabilities, health care providers, and faith-based organizations to develop referral protocols and to offer additional venues for the attorneys to meet with survivors who are seeking injunctions for protection.

Attend IFP Project training events and conference calls.

Qualification Requirements:
Education and/or Experience:
JD from an accredited law school and two years of litigation experience, preferably representing survivors of domestic, dating and sexual violence and stalking in injunctions for protection proceedings and other civil legal matters,

Knowledge of Intimate Partner Violence and Safety Risks
Strong understanding of the dynamics of intimate partner violence and heightened safety risks faced by survivors seeking to leave or end the abusive relationship by filing for an injunction for protection.

Interpersonal, Critical Thinking and Problem Solving Skills
The IFP Project Attorney will possess highly developed interpersonal skills, as well as critical thinking and problem solving skills, to enable with minimum supervision, appropriate decisions related to providing effective legal representation.

Certification and Licensing Requirements
Must be a Florida licensed attorney in good standing with no prior Florida Bar disciplinary proceedings that resulted in the imposition of any penalty.
