Summary:
As General Counsel, you will serve as the company's chief legal officer, providing strategic guidance, consultation, and support on a wide array of legal and business matters. This pivotal role encompasses overseeing the organization's legal functions, managing our legal team, and liaising with external counsel globally. You will ensure that Heritage Auctions operates within the law at all times, advise on legal rights and duties, and guide the senior management on all aspects of legal policy and corporate governance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and lead the legal strategy for Heritage Auctions worldwide.
  • Provide legal advice and support on a broad range of legal issues, including corporate governance, intellectual property, contract negotiations, employment law, regulatory compliance, risk management, and litigation.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate various commercial agreements and documents.
  • Manage the company's internal legal function and staff, as well as manage the selection and work of external counsel.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations in each jurisdiction we operate.
  • Participate in the formulation of corporate policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Advise on legal aspects of the company's financing, including assessing and advising on current and future business structures and legal entities.

Education & Experience:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • License to practice law in Texas.
  • A minimum of 10 years of legal experience, ideally within a leading law firm or corporate legal department.
  • A plus if any experience in the auction, art, collectibles, or luxury goods sectors.
  • Demonstrated ability to create legal defensive or proactive strategies.
  • High degree of professional ethics and integrity.
  • Excellent judgment and analytical skills.
  • Superior negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work within an international legal framework
