Responsibilities:
  • Prepare Family Law related documents including pleadings and correspondence.
  • Provide legal counsel and strategy to clients by analyzing their needs and determining the proper course of action.
  • Represent clients in court.
  • Must be prepared to step in and handle pieces of existing family law cases; as well as handle new cases as part of a team, from initial consultation to trial.
  • Work closely with paralegals and senior partners to ensure swift action through the civil litigation process
  • Help solve legal problems for clients through analyzing the situation, understanding their needs, and creating a strategic plan of action
  • Represent clients in court proceedings as needed
  • Manage the division of marital assets, including real estate, during divorce proceedings when needed
  • Organize and maintain client files to ensure they are kept current

Qualifications:
  • Must be admitted to practice in New Jersey.
  • Minimum of 3 years of family law experience but more experience preferred.
  • Can handle own caseload with independent decision making and has some trial experience.
  • Strong written, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be self-motivated and organized.
  • Excellent research skills.
  • An existing book of business is a plus, but not required.
  • Member in good standing and actively involved with the ABA (American Bar Association)
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, especially in highly stressful and emotional situations
  • Extra consideration for those with a criminal justice background
  • At least 1-2 years of working in a law firm on family law issues as well as real estate (determining marital property) is necessary
  • Bachelor's degree with a legal background and J.D. degree are required
