Description:

TL;DR: we all get along, we strive to serve our clients as well as we can, we work hard, we make good money, and we have lives outside of the office. If this is what you are looking for, please read on. If not, please move to the next job posting.

In 2010, A Divorce Lawyer decided to leave the Insurance Defense world and follow his passions as a way to help clients better and without the levels of bureaucracy found at bigger law firms. In the firms he had worked he was always up for figuring out everyone's out of the ordinary cases and that continued, with the thought to become more fully involved in Criminal Defense and Family Law. That is what happened, and has continued to happen; we regularly get calls from other lawyers on cases they need help with.

The firm started in a 10 x 10 office in the industrial district in the central Salt Lake Valley and quickly grew into a downtown office. In 2014 the firm moved to from Downtown Salt Lake City to an office in West Jordan. The firm had always done Personal Injury, Family Law and Criminal Defense work, and the move saw a significant uptick in the criminal defense and family law cases. In 2022 the firm moved its center of operations to East Sandy in a larger nicer office and again we are watching as our clients are gradually changing.

We have been fortunate to always have more than enough work through our relationships in the community and our marketing efforts. We have benefitted from a significant increase in our Personal Injury practice over the last year and have watched as our other practice areas have continued to grow.

Through the years there have been both positive and negative growth. There have been many people that have come back or asked to have their old position after it has been filled. We are not a regular law firm. Some of us wear shorts and flip flops all summer. We are not easily offended, and pride ourselves on our diversity and inclusion in a region where those things are often overlooked. If you are easily offended, this probably isn't the best place for you. If your preference is to sit in your office with the door closed, you won't fit in.

We are looking to hire a full time Associate Attorney to help with our growing family law case loads specifically, and most probably someone that will have some exposure to each of the practice areas. The ideal candidate will be a good fit with our tribe and contribute to both our work culture and the quality of the work we do. If you have experience in one or more of our practice areas, great, but that is not necessary. A good attorney will have skills that are easily transferable. We are open to someone with experience in other areas that want to develop their client base as well, and we will gladly help you do that.

We want someone that is real, someone that knows how to use a computer (we use microsoft office and advantagelaw); understands research and writing; and that wants to grow themselves as a lawyer into the head of the family law practice group.

Being a lawyer is not the easiest job in the world and does require some stress and time in the office. If you opened this posting looking for a $140,000 salary to start, you're looking in the wrong place. You can certainly make that and you will need to bring a significant book of business and exceed your 130 billable hour target month 1 and every month thereafter. If you want to make good money, get paid for doing good work for good clients, and go home after 8 hours, this is probably a good fit. We offer compensation packages that reward you both for doing work and bringing in work. We want someone that wants to grow as a lawyer, and grow financially. A successful lawyer at our firm has the ability to make significant money; the more you do the more you will be rewarded. But, we don't ask that you work 50 or 60 hours a week. We have a soft billing requirement and if you are consistently at or above your billing there is no reason that you will not make over $100,000. If you bring in business outside of the firm's marketing you have the probability of doing much better than that. We are also happy to help you build your book of business by paying for marketing for you with a portion of collections from your work. This is a great opportunity for a hard working individual with the ability to learn and grown within our firm by taking their practice to the next level.

Because we are a small firm, everyone pitches in to help with whatever is asked of them to ensure our client's expectations are met. Our attorneys and staff are always improving their knowledge and skill set and your willingness to grow your knowledge and skill set are important to us. Some of the best and most productive times we have are collegially talking through cases as a group. If you are offended by pitching in, whether it is taking out the garbage, making a copy, covering a hearing, or talking through a hearing you just had with a particular judge, please don't apply.

As part of the application process, please provide a writing sample and any letters of reference that you have.

There are firms advertising for positions and assigning values to their compensation package that are somewhat arbitrary. I would hope that if you apply for this position you are not a person that is drawn to those types of sales techniques. We are not and never have been about the hard sale, either in our client selection or in our employee selection.

In short, we want a badass, we hope that can be you.

If you made it this far, then let us know what stood out to you from this posting in your application.
