A Video Game Developer Company is looking for an experienced Counsel, Litigation & Employment to join our Legal team. In this role, you will provide management and support for a variety of litigation, disputes, and investigations, including employment, consumer class action, product liability, and intellectual property disputes. You will also provide counsel and advice to the People teams and other business leaders to ensure ongoing risk management and compliance. You will report to our Head of Litigation.

This full-time position is seated at A Video Game Developer Company Headquarters in San Mateo, CA. A Video Game Developer Company's mandatory in-office days are Tuesday through Thursday with optional in-office days on Monday and Friday.

You Will:
  • Collaborate with and manage outside litigation counsel
  • Advise cross-functional teams on litigation strategy and risks
  • Coordinate and actively participate in internal discovery activities and subpoena responses
  • Address pre-litigation disputes
  • Provide counsel and advice to the Company on employment related issues, including but not limited to recruiting, wage & hour compliance, contract or contingent workers, employee relations, performance management, discipline and terminations, internal investigations, reasonable accommodations, leave of absence, work permits, and discrimination
  • Assist internal investigations
  • Oversee the drafting and negotiation of offer letters and employment-related agreements, including severance, separation, restrictive covenant, retention, and other employment-related agreements
  • Design and guide internal People Team audits
  • Assist People Team in developing policies, procedures and training programs to drive compliance with employment laws
  • Draft employee-facing policies, handbooks, and other resources
  • Monitor new laws, regulations and decisions affecting the substantive legal areas above and provide strategic, preventative advice to People Team and partners
  • Identify process improvements that help the legal team, the People Team and the business scale for growth
  • Support Legal department and team related projects, as assigned

You Have:
  • 3+ years of litigation experience, including employment litigation experience
  • Must have law firm experience
  • Technology company experience
  • Broad subject matter expertise in federal and state employment laws and regulations
  • Practical business acumen, driving pragmatic business-oriented solutions
  • A highly approachable, collegial, and collaborative approach
  • Member in good standing of the California Bar or another bar association with the ability to register as in-house counsel in California
