Summary:
An American Food Company is seeking a highly skilled and experienced attorney to join our Legal team as the Director, Assistant General Counsel with a focus on Marketing and Advertising of An American Food Company and La Colombe brands. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, this individual will provide legal support and guidance, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, protecting the company's interests, and facilitating growth and innovation in these areas.

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the legal lead for marketing, advertising, creative/production and brand activations
  • Provide legal advice and support to the Marketing and Creative teams on a wide range of matters, including advertising, promotions, social media and packaging for An American Food Company brands, including La Colombe
  • Advise Marketing on an array of content including online campaigns, promotions, and sweepstakes and contests
  • Partner with Marketing and Creative teams, to develop and implement the effective marketing and advertising of our products
  • Review, draft, and negotiate various agreements related to marketing, and promotional activities, including vendor, sponsorship, influencer, and licensing agreements
  • Review, draft, and negotiate various creative and production agreements, including master service agreements (and SOWs), digital production, post-production, photography, and talent agreements
  • Stay abreast of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards impacting sales and marketing activities, including FTC regulations and consumer protection laws
  • Develop and implement compliance strategies and training programs as needed
  • Partner with the Marketing team to drive brand optimization and collaborate with IP counsel in clearing assets, taglines, slogans and marks
  • Collaborate closely with other members of the Legal team, as well as with colleagues in Sales, R&D, Regulatory Affairs, and other departments, to support An American Food Company's overall business objectives

Requirements:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the bar of at least one U.S. state
  • 6+ years of relevant legal experience, with a focus on marketing, advertising, food and consumer protection law
  • In-house experience at a consumer-packaged goods company or law firm experience representing consumer products companies preferred
  • Strong understanding of advertising and marketing law, FDA regulations, food law intellectual property law
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
