Job Summary:
We are seeking a strategic, hands-on attorney with advertising, consumer protection and commercial contract experience who will report to the SVP Legal and work closely with colleagues across the organization to help grow An American Cable Television Provider Company's broadband, mobile and related businesses in a fast-changing regulatory climate. You will provide support and guidance to the marketing, product, sales, operations, offer strategy and customer base management teams with respect to our consumer-facing relationships and communications. In this role, you'll identify risks, solve problems and help the business acquire and maintain customers and expand and improve product offerings in a creative and compliant way.

Responsibilities:
  • Review advertising and marketing collateral and advise business regarding claim substantiation, consumer disclosures, intellectual property and sweepstakes issues.
  • Monitor developments and changes to applicable laws and industry best practices and ensure that our products, policies and communications comply with these laws and practices.
  • Create, update and maintain all consumer-facing terms of service.
  • Consult with business clients to keep abreast of product and business rule developments and counsel on various product, marketing and subscriber-related issues.
  • Draft, review and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements.
  • Recommend policy and process improvements relating to the above.
  • Track and research developments relating to new and pending advertising and consumer protection laws and regulations and help lead compliance efforts relating to these laws.
  • Support the SVP Legal with respect to trademark matters, including clearance, prosecution, maintenance and enforcement.
  • Support advertising challenges, including at the National Advertising Division (NAD) of the BBB.
  • Assist and collaborate with colleagues in legal department on litigation-related matters as needed.

Qualifications:
  • J.D. and license to practice law in at least one state
  • Minimum of three to five years of legal experience in a law firm environment or as in-house counsel
  • Experience counseling on a range of marketing, advertising and consumer protection issues
  • Reviewing advertising and marketing materials for compliance with applicable laws; and drafting and negotiating various types of commercial agreements.
  • Sweepstakes, trademark prosecution, product counseling and/or NAD challenge experience a plus
  • Self-starter who is organized, process-focused, intellectually curious and flexible, with an ability and desire to learn about the business, take on multiple wide-ranging matters, gain new areas of expertise as business needs change, and seek out opportunities to provide value
  • Exhibit sound business judgment, provide practical legal advice, and quickly build and maintain effective and positive relationships with business partners and colleagues in the legal department
  • Ability to lead and collaborate on cross-functional projects with little supervision
  • Strong organization skills and ability to prioritize multiple deadlines
  • Experience and/or interest in project management to establish or improve processes and streamline legal team efforts with existing workflows within the company
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Mature judgment, innovative thinking, and a desire to take initiative and think two steps ahead
  • Ideal candidate will have some experience in the telecommunications industry
