Job Summary:
This position is responsible for providing various methods of support and analysis to Sarasota Memorial Health Care System's ("SMHCS") Chief Legal Officer and other senior lawyers in the Legal Affairs Department in accordance with mission, vision and values of SMHCS. This confident, hands-on, and client-centered attorney will be given the unique opportunity of navigating the complexities of a distinguished and growing health care system. This position will be a legal advisor and regulatory counsel to SMHCS management and staff regarding health care business transactions and contracting, including technology contracts, clinical business systems agreements, consulting agreements, health care contracting, procurement and related regulatory compliance, while performing a wide array of legal functions for a large integrated health care delivery system. This position will also serve as a subject matter expert, educational resource, and strategic adviser, to SMHCS business leaders and colleagues on all aspects of healthcare operations. This individual will provide legal guidance and counsel on transactions involving physician group arrangements and healthcare affiliations and services agreements. The lawyer provides legal advice, consultation, and policy analysis and interpretations of numerous areas of law and policy and conducts research and analysis to provide legal recommendations. Responsibilities also include preparing written opinions and guidance for internal clients and drafts and reviewing contracts for the organization, with emphasis on physician and vendor agreements.

Required Qualifications:
  • Require Admission to the Florida Bar.
  • Require experience/facility in providing legal counsel for matters involving: Federal laws and regulations governing the provision of and payment for healthcare services, including, but not limited to the Stark Law, the Anti-kickback Statute, the Medicare/Medicaid Conditions of Participation, Physician/Physician Group contracting, Medical Staff/Peer Review matters. Hospital/Facility Licensing and Healthcare Operations.
  • Require between four (4) to seven (7) years of healthcare transactional or regulatory experience.
