Description:
In this role, the Corporate Counsel II - Employment will be responsible for anticipating and mitigating legal risk, counseling internal clients, responding to administrative agency charges, researching and tracking HR and employment-related laws, and developing related Company policies and/or revising policies as needed. The ideal candidate will have experience advising internal clients on applicable laws and regulations, responding to employment-related litigation, researching and tracking legal updates in a variety of jurisdictions, and drafting policies and procedures.This role is eligible to participate in A Supermarket Company Hybrid Work Program, which requires work in-office at least 2 days per month.

- Evaluates and analyzes legal cases and then reports findings to direct leader; researches unique legal issues impacting the organization by identifying applicable statutes, judicial decisions, and codes.
- Conducts legal research and responds to legal inquiries from multiple areas of the business.
- Identifies employment-related legal issues and recommends responsive action, as appropriate.
- Drafts memorandums, attorney correspondence, reports, and other litigation-related documents, including responses to administrative agency charges.
- Partners and liaises with outside counsel as needed and manages relevant external consultants.
- Recommends process improvements for area of responsibility.
- Works strategically to provide guidance to internal team members and relevant areas of the business.
- Performs pre-litigation work to minimize risks and potential legal liability.
- Assists in analyzing current company procedures to identify best practices.
- Assists with preparation and analysis of data to identify legal exposures and risks.
- Supports strategies for reducing costs and transferring risk.
- Provides proactive analysis of current projects and analytical review of reported results.
- Performs special projects as requested.
- Drafts, reviews, and negotiates employment-related agreements.
- Collaborates with team members and communicates relevant information to leadership.
- Upholds the security and confidentiality of documents and data within area of responsibility.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- A minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in a business environment required.
- Experience in a law firm, corporate legal department and/or in-house legal counsel experience preferred.
- J.D. from an ABA accredited law school required.
- Licensed to practice in Illinois (or immediate ability to become licensed) required.
- Overall broad knowledge of employment law.
- Or, a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge.
