As a core member of the team reporting to MODE's Deputy General Counsel, you will provide business oriented and practical legal advice and commercial contract support to MODE Global subsidiaries, employees and agents. MODE Global is a leading Freight Brokerage in the United States with over $3 billion in revenue and recognition on the Forbes 2023 Largest Private Companies List for three consecutive years (2021-2023).

Utilizing strong judgment, curiosity, and a sense of humor, you will assist MODE's legal team in providing world-class legal services that deliver confidence. Prior transportation experience is highly preferred. Having a positive attitude that can roll with whatever comes your way IS a requirement.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Drafting and negotiating a broad range of commercial agreements including, but not limited to, transportation, technology procurement and professional services agreements.
  • Providing legal advice on commercial and transportation matters, including regulatory compliance and casualty matters.
  • Work closely with sales and other business teams to summarize and communicate legal and transportation concepts clearly and effectively and help them understand issues and risks
  • Improve our standard form agreements, create/revise playbooks and policies, and streamline legal processes and provide operational efficiencies within the legal commercial functions
  • Prepare legal trainings and presentations to educate sales clients on legal best practices and commercial terms
  • Resolve issues that arise in commercial relationships, including freight charge disputes and cargo claims.
  • Identify and evaluate business and legal risks, and find creative ways to mitigate them while achieving business goals
  • Collaborate with teams across agent network and MODE, including sales, operations, finance and risk.
  • Promote MODE Values in all that you do.

Qualifications:
  • Love all things contracts, but have a willingness to jump into whatever needs accomplished, whether or not it fits squarely in your area of expertise. Can quickly advise on contracts to get things done and keep things moving.
  • Demonstrate a proactive nature and “can-do” attitude, with a strong record of providing solution-focused advice.
  • 8+ years of experience as a practicing attorney, at least 2 years with transportation law is preferred.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) with outstanding academic credentials from at least one state bar. Time spent with AmLaw 100 law firm preferred.
  • A team player who is willing to assist at any level of legal work that is needed to be done
  • Sophisticated understanding of transportation and supply chain issues is a plus.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and an ability to convey complex legal advice to business people.
