An American Worldwide Logistics & Freight Forwarding Company is seeking an experienced attorney specializing in international employment and labor law. The position will be located onsite at our Bellevue, Washington office or in a major U.S. city where we operate.

Job Description:
The Corporate Counsel will join a world-class legal department and will be responsible for providing advice and strategies on labor and employment matters primarily in the United States and Canada, but also Mexico, Central America, and South America. The Corporate Counsel role will support the Vice President and Associate General Counsel, Labor and Employment. The position can be based in the Company's headquarters located in Bellevue, Washington or in a major U.S. city where we operate. Primary responsibilities include the following:
  • Support and advise business teams, including executives, managers, employee relations, health and safety, payroll, information services, and operations, regarding compliance with labor and employment laws and regulations
  • Advise on issues such as discipline, non-competition, terminations, performance management, relocations, leave, disability, contingent workers, pay equity, pay transparency, contractor management, occupational health and safety, anti-discrimination, wage and hour, immigration, employee personal data privacy, and union/labor relations
  • Manage litigation, outside counsel, and budgets
  • Provide representation and/or management of matters before fair employment, civil rights, and human rights agencies
  • Conduct and manage internal investigations
  • Respond to governmental subpoenas, investigations, and audits
  • Draft and revise employment policies, standards, and internal work regulations
  • Draft service provider, commission, non-compete, restrictive covenant, employment, and settlement agreements
  • Develop and deliver client training on compliance with labor and employment laws
  • Lead responses to governmental inquiries into employment and labor related matters
  • Perform project management work for legal projects
  • Formulate efficient resolution strategies to meet business objectives
  • Provide effective cross-functional support inside and outside of the legal department
  • Assist in developing and implementing departmental goals and initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Travel: Expected 5% to 15%; Valid passport/authorized to travel internationally

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor, Bachelor of Laws, LLM, or equivalent degree
  • Licensed/authorized to practice law in jurisdiction where hired and in good standing
  • 5-12 years of experience in a top law firm preferred
  • In-house experience working in the law department of a Fortune 500 company highly desirable, but not required
  • Strong knowledge of, and practical experience advising on, labor and employment laws and regulations
  • Practical experience working with trade unions preferred
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with high level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent business judgment and ability to work independently
  • Proficiency in Spanish and Portuguese preferred, but not required.
