As the Commercial Counsel for An American Multinational Investment Bank and Financial Services Holding Company Payments – Assistant Vice President, Senior Counsel in our Legal Payments teams, you will be an exceptional attorney with a strong passion for drafting and negotiating commercial agreements to join our Commercial Team for An American Multinational Investment Bank and Financial Services Holding Company Payments negotiations in the United States. As Commercial Counsel, you will be at the forefront of delivering our capabilities and solutions to our customers, negotiating commercial agreements, contributing to projects that improve operational processes, reviewing consumer-facing documentation, and providing legal support to sales, client service, and other company collaborators. You will also have the opportunity to work on projects and product initiatives across the An American Multinational Investment Bank and Financial Services Holding Company Payments Legal Team and broader Legal Department.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Work cross-functionally and globally to negotiate complex and high-value commercial agreements with J.P. Morgan's customers.
  • Contribute to projects that improve operational processes to increase the efficiency and scalability of commercial legal support, driving innovation and best practices.
  • Collaborate with product counsel to draft and maintain J.P. Morgan's agreements, written templates and playbooks.
  • Review consumer-facing documentation with an eye toward clarity, ease of understanding, and legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide legal support to sales, client service and other company collaborators.
  • Support projects and product initiatives across the J.P. Morgan Payments Legal Team and broader Legal department.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
  • Strong decision-making abilities, practical business judgement and attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and advance multiple deals happening simultaneously, often on tight deadlines.
  • Ability to lead and drive teams to institute change and collaboration across a variety of functional areas.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to suggest and implement change to improve operational efficiency.
  • Effective and creative problem-solving and troubleshooting ability, comfortable making decisions and taking ownership of tasks.
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Desire to learn and intellectual curiosity.
  • Law degree with at least 3 years relevant legal experience, including in corporate, commercial, regulatory or litigation.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
  • Experience working in banking or financial services.
  • Privacy, data use, data security expertise.
  • Federal Government contracting experience.
  • Experience working in a global and cross border industry.
