Job Summary: This is a full-time staff attorney position. The Worker Rights and Protection Project (WRAPP) attorney will assist WRAPP in providing legal assistance to low-income individuals throughout Indiana. WRAPP is a statewide project, and the attorney will work in close cooperation with ILS attorneys, staff, and other providers to deliver high quality representation and advocacy tools to address a broad range of client needs. The attorney will work under the supervision of the WRAPP Project Director.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide survivor-centered, culturally competent, trauma-informed legal services to survivors of human trafficking.
  • Screen applicants for legal issues arising from sex and/or labor trafficking.
  • Provide direct representation to survivors with meritorious civil legal claims.
  • Provide direct representation to foreign national survivors who seek immigration relief in the form of continued presence, T visas or U visas (or other meritorious forms of relief).
  • Provide victim's rights advocacy in any related criminal investigation or proceedings against their trafficker.
  • Provide survivors with legal advice, brief services, and referral information when full direct service is unavailable.
  • Build referral network through collaboration with partner agencies.
  • Conduct outreach in communities to empower survivors, raise awareness of legal rights, remedies and services available to survivors of trafficking, and increase victim identification.
  • Provide multidisciplinary trainings to ProBono attorneys, law enforcement, social service agencies, and community members to increase victim identification and knowledge of crime victims' rights
  • Contribute to programmatic reporting required by grantors.
  • Collaborate with other ILS staff and VOCA-funded projects to expand capacity within ILS to represent and refer trafficking survivors to wrap-around services.
  • Work closely with the Statewide Anti-Trafficking Coordinator and social workers to address gaps in services to trafficking survivors and collect data for grant reporting purposes.
  • Draft know-your-rights brochures for trafficking survivors.
  • Actively participate in statewide anti-trafficking coalition.

Qualifications:
  • Dedicated to the mission of Indiana Legal Services which is to use the law to fight poverty and racism, empower clients, and improve access to justice.
  • J.D. degree after graduation from an ABA-accredited law school and admitted to practice law in Indiana, or able to gain prompt admission.
  • At least two (2) years of legal experience post-J.D. is preferred.
  • Spanish fluency is required including an ability to provide legal advice to clients in both written and oral Spanish.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • A demonstrated commitment to public interest work and desire to assist victims of crime.
  • Commitment to social justice and low-wage worker rights.
  • An ability to provide survivor-centered, trauma-informed, multidisciplinary, collaborative and culturally competent legal assistance to victims of crime.
  • An ability to work collaboratively in a variety of contexts and with multiple organizations to facilitate comprehensive services to victims of crime.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Those with legal experience law school clinic, externship, summer or practice experience in immigration law, employment law, crime victims' rights enforcement, and/or victim service are strongly encouraged to apply.
