The Noah Project Attorney oversees all civil legal assistance activities of the agency. This full-time position provides legal advocacy services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking to promote self-determination and safety.

The role of the Noah Project Attorney is to strengthen and improve services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, or human trafficking engaged in the civil and family law legal systems. The ideal candidate is patient, and empathetic and has a strong desire to work with populations in challenging and emotional circumstances.

Responsibilities & Duties:
  • Coordinates the practice of civil law for eligible victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking including, but not limited to, providing legal counsel and representation in acquiring protective orders, spousal support, child custody, and child support-property divisions, and decrees of divorce per the Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct.
  • Works independently, exercises initiative, and accomplishes tasks without continuous supervision
  • Plans and implements a coordinated system of tracking case progress and outcomes.
  • Advocates for consistent implementation of community-wide policy regarding appropriate responses to the crime of domestic violence.
  • Work with the Executive Team to develop an annual budget; monitor legal expenditures to stay within the approved budget. Works on securing new and renewed funding for this program as requested.
  • Represents Noah Project on community task forces and committees as assigned.
  • Serves as a link between Noah Project staff and the legal community; advocates on behalf of clients as needed.
  • Develop related educational materials and participate in community legal education activities regarding domestic violence.
  • Participates in agency-wide and/or office outreach activities, including attending and/or coordinating legal clinics and/or other public service events.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with other agencies and organizations that address issues of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking
  • Adheres to Noah Project's Confidentiality Policy at all times, including the ability to interact tactfully with employees at all levels concerning sensitive issues.
  • Communicates effectively orally and in writing
  • Set a positive example to staff on flexibility and teamwork.
  • Provides trauma-informed legal representation.
  • Effectively organizes work to meet frequent and/or multiple deadlines, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and manage conflicting priorities and demands
  • Prepares and reviews programmatic and/or agency budget reports.
  • Analyze problems and devise effective solutions based on sound judgment
  • Set measurable goals and evaluate achievement of goals.
  • Gives and receives feedback and evaluation as an improvement tool
  • Facilitate legal services kiosk project, including day-to-day management and frequent coordination with statewide legal services agency
  • Other duties as assigned by the Advocacy Director or Executive Director

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) or equivalent.
  • Currently licensed to practice law in Texas.
  • Fulfills all requirements to remain in good standing with the State Bar of Texas and the Texas Supreme Court.
  • Experience in family law and domestic violence issues.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid Driver's License and good driving record
