A Non-Profit Organization serving the Treasure Coast of Florida, currently has an opening for a full time Injunction for Protection Attorney. The attorney will be tasked with providing legal assistance or advise to victims of violence in procuring civil injunctions.

Qualifications:
  • Florida Bar (Required)
  • Salary begins at $60,000 annually.
  • Bilingual (Spanish Preferred)
  • Must be willing to travel. (Indian River, Martin or St. Lucie Counties)
  • Must understand the dynamics of working with domestic violence survivors as well as the working with A Non-Profit Organization's non-legal staff.

I. Educational and/or equivalence in experience requirements:
The Injunction for Protection Attorney will possess a JD from an accredited law school and litigation experience preferred. Experience working with survivors of domestic, dating, and sexual violence and stalking in injunction for protection proceedings and other civil legal matters, or prosecuting batterers in criminal proceedings will be taken into consideration. Providing direct legal representations while a law student in a supervised law school legal clinic or internship may be included as litigation experience.

Certification or licensing requirements: Florida licensed attorney in good standing with no prior Florida Bar disciplinary proceedings that resulted in the imposition of any penalty.

Specialized or technical educational requirements:
The Injunction for Protection Attorney will possess highly developed interpersonal skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills and must make appropriate decisions relating to providing effective legal representations with minimal supervision.

II. Summary of the main function/purpose of the position:
The Injunction for Protection Attorney is employed by a certified domestic violence center to provide direct representation to survivors of domestic, dating, and sexual violence and stalking in temporary and final injunction for protection proceedings. The Injunction for Protection Attorney will represent: 1) survivors seeking temporary injunctions, 2) survivors who have obtained a temporary injunction on their own and require representation at the hearing on the final injunction; and 3) assist survivors in any Post Judgment filings after a final injunction has been issued. The Injunction for Protection Attorney may also conduct outreach with the local community for the benefit of the IFP program and the organization.

III. Principal Job Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Provide direct legal representation to survivors of domestic, dating, and sexual violence and stalking in temporary and final injunction for protection proceedings and other Post Judgement filings & proceedings.

2. Assess the other needs of survivors and make appropriate referrals for services.

3. Complete monthly and other reports as required to monitor the completion of project deliverables.

4. Attend conference calls and Injunction for Protection Project training events.

IV. Work Environment:
The Injunction for Protection Attorney requires limited in-state travel. The Injunction for Protection Attorney's representation of survivors seeking injunctions for protection is designated to Martin, St. Lucie, and Indian River County.
