A Multibillion-Dollar Corporation, the largest publicly traded company headquartered in North Dakota, with operations, customers, and more than 10,000 employees across the country is seeking an Attorney with excellent human relations and communication skills to provide legal services, represent the company in administrative and legal proceedings and complex negotiations, subject to the general supervision of the Chief Legal Officer and senior attorneys. All MDU Resources employees are responsible for placing safety as #1 priority in their day-to-day work routines for themselves and others.

Minimum Qualifications:
Attorney I: ($91,710 - $114,640)
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university; and
  • Juris Doctor (or equivalent) degree from an accredited law school; and
  • License to practice law in North Dakota

Attorney II: ($111,240 - $139,050)
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university; and
  • Juris Doctor (or equivalent) degree from an accredited law school; and
  • License to practice law in North Dakota; and
  • Three years' experience in the practice of law

Attorney III: ($127,970 - $159,960)
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university acceptable to the company; and
  • Juris Doctor (or equivalent) degree from an accredited law school acceptable to the company; and
  • License to practice law in North Dakota; and
  • Minimum of six years' experience in the practice of law

Other Requirements:
  • Must take all measures necessary to protect networks, devices, programs and data from cyber-attack, damage or unauthorized access.
  • This position is located on site at the MDU Resources Corporate Campus in Bismarck, ND
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States, no sponsorships considered.
  • Subject to pre-employment drug testing and background checks.
  • May be required to maintain a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in the practice of law in area(s) related to the Company's business and operations.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Chief Legal Officer and senior attorneys in providing legal advice to the internal staff and senior management of MDU Resources Group, Inc. and its subsidiaries.
  • Assist the Chief Legal Officer and senior attorneys in the supervision and coordination of the activities of outside counsel.
  • Provide legal assistance to internal staff and management of MDU Resources Group, Inc. and its subsidiaries in areas such as finance, securities, corporate governance, corporate structure, antitrust, natural resources law, administrative law, employee benefit plan matters, contracts, real estate, labor and employment matters, credit and collections, claims and litigation, insurance matters, environmental law, utility law, legal compliance, legislation and regulatory matters, construction law, copyright and trademarks.
  • Assist with delegation of tasks to other legal department staff as needed.
  • Performs other tasks and special projects as assigned.
