An Enduring Boutique Law Firm is seeking a lateral, experienced Attorney to join its thriving Labor and Employment practice group, to be based in the firm's Chicago Office. RD has been a fixture in the legal community for over 50 years, representing clients across the Chicagoland and Midwest area in a broad spectrum of businesses. Successful candidates should have 8 years or more of experience defending businesses and individuals in employment law matters within a mid to large-sized law firm. Responsibilities will include the following.
  • Develop employment-related agreements, policies, and employee handbooks.
  • Counsel on employee relations issues such as discipline and termination, accommodation requests, leaves of absence, conducting workplace investigations, among others.
  • Counsel on Human Resources, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Recruiting, Talent, HR Compliance, and other broad range of employment concerns.
  • Experience with labor is advantageous, but it is not a mandatory requirement.
  • Experience in anti-harassment and other employment training.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state labor & employment laws (e.g., wage and hour, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, ADEA, FMLA, ADA, FLSA, and similar state laws). Conduct legal research and analysis to provide innovative solutions to complex legal issues.
  • Execute all phases of litigation in federal and state courts handling employment law cases including discovery, interviewing witnesses, reviewing electronically stored documents, pleadings, motions and briefs, conducting and defending depositions, visiting dispute sites, interacting with clients and opposing counsel, attending court appearances, pre-trial matters, trial, and appeals.
  • Experience with the investigation, management, and discovery of large collections of documents and data files.
  • Perform other related employment law and commercial litigation responsibilities as needed.
  • Collaborate with other practice groups within RD, such as finance, tax, corporate, trusts & estates to provide comprehensive legal services to clients with diverse needs.
  • Participate in business development activities, including client presentations, networking events, industry conferences, and other targeted marketing efforts to expand the firm's client base and cultivate long-term relationships.
