A Rapidly Growing Education Company is seeking a high-performing leader to join our legal team. The Associate General Counsel will perform legal, commercial, regulatory, and compliance functions in the educational technology and publishing realm and report to A Rapidly Growing Education Company' Chief Legal Officer. This position requires an autonomous leader and problem solver that can work cross-functionally to tackle complex challenges across the organization.

About the Legal Team:
Our team handles all legal matters for the company. We strive to minimize risk for the company and facilitate business transactions and operations in support of the Company's mission. You will be part of a well-regarded, close-knit team but will also have the chance to work with key players across our organization. Your role focuses on data privacy and contracts issues that affect the Company's operations.

The impact you'll have:?
  • Advise on best practices, liability and compliance with global privacy and data protection laws, as well as overseeing legal and regulatory aspects of data collection and use, privacy disclosures and transparency, and related issues.
  • Support compliance with data privacy laws, including the GDPR. FERPA and COPPA.
  • Negotiate complex contracts in support of product development and research initiatives.
  • Advise on customer contract negotiations as needed.
  • Mentor and support customer contracts team members including possible direct supervision.
  • Use experience gained from supporting commercial transactions to help define business terms and structure deals in an optimal way.
  • Assist on projects related to the protection of intellectual property.
  • Assist the Chief Legal Officer in providing ad hoc legal advice to business leaders through the organization.
  • Suggest and implement improvements to contract management processes.
  • Perform legal research on relevant topics impacting CA's business.
  • Support the business in legal functions related to global expansion.
  • Assist with other compliance matters on an as-needed basis.

What we're looking for:?
  • JD from accredited law school.
  • Member of the bar in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Experience working in the Education and/or Technology industry required; EdTech experience preferred
  • 5 years of experience related to data privacy laws required
  • 3-plus years of contract review and negotiation experience, including SaaS agreements, as well as leadership experience preferred
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume workplace.
  • Strong understanding of the educational technology industry and its relevant legal considerations, including student data privacy, accessibility and data protection.
