Description:

The Associate General Counsel, Global Legal Strategies and Policy is responsible for identifying, developing, and executing strategic initiatives for An American Publicly Traded Biopharmaceutical Company, with a substantial focus on China and other key ex-US growth markets. The Associate General Counsel will report to the Senior Associate General Counsel, Global Legal Strategy and Policy Counsel.

The individual in this role will leverage industry experience and innovative thinking while partnering with stakeholders to drive creative solutions to complex legal challenges that a U.S.-based life sciences company may face while doing business aboard. The role will monitor and evaluate current and future external trends with a focus on the U.S. trends that would have a potential impact on the company's business in China and key ex-US geographic markets, prioritize them and develop enterprise-wide strategies.

The individual in this role will also partner with An American Publicly Traded Biopharmaceutical Company Legal, Government Affairs, and other key stakeholders to help shape and prepare for regulatory changes. This role will also develop key external engagements inside and outside of the United States for active policy shaping and executing strategies.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and support global strategies with enterprise impact and manage and supervise external counsel and consultant in connection with such strategy development.
  • Working with Government Affairs and other legal departments, responsible for developing strategies to shape external stakeholders including government agencies, industry associations, industry coalitions and other third parties in the healthcare ecosystem.
  • Consistently finds opportunities to strengthen and improve team culture of agility, prioritization, innovative thinking, trust, and inspiration, and An American Publicly Traded Biopharmaceutical Company Ways of Working.
  • Supports transition of strategies developed in the Global Legal Strategies & Policy group into executional stages at the regional level, engaging cross-functionally and with the business to establish operational plans.

Qualifications:
  • Law degree from an ABA accredited law school and in good standing with the state bar of the jurisdiction in which your office will be located (or ability to gain licensure in the state in which your office will be located)
  • 8+ years of relevant legal experience, with previous pharmaceutical experience highly preferred.
  • Cross-border experience working with and advising multinational companies across markets.
  • Proven ability to solve complex and dynamic problems and help to proactively shape the external environment.
  • Comfort taking on high-visibility, high-impact projects with exposure to executive leaders with strong communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently identify practical legal solutions to complex challenges, to influence key internal and external stakeholders, and to work effectively in high-pressure, matrixed environments.
  • Bi-lingual preferred (English and native or fluent in one other foreign language)
  • Preferably based in Chicago with Washington D.C., as a considered secondary location
