Description:

As Associate General Counsel in Benefits Consulting, you'll be a part of An Insurance Distribution Platform Company's in-house Compliance Solutions team, which is made up of benefits and employment law attorneys and industry experts. The Compliance Solutions team functions as an internal resource to An Insurance Distribution Platform Company employee benefits broker-consultants and their employer-clients across the nation.

Within this role, you will provide daily consulting to broker-consultants and clients on a wide range of matters related to health and welfare plan compliance, including ERISA, the Affordable Care Act, HIPAA, COBRA, MHPAEA, tax-favored arrangements under the Internal Revenue Code, state-specific mandates, and more. You will be expected to provide guidance and education that is both precise and practical.

In addition to daily consulting, you will also work with your Compliance Solutions colleagues and cross-collaborate with other An Insurance Distribution Platform Company teams, including the Corporate Legal team, on issues and projects that correspond with and enhance An Insurance Distribution Platform Company's benefits consulting practice.

Responsibilities:
  • Consult with broker-consultants and employer-clients on all matters of health and welfare plan compliance, which may occur over e-mail, phone, virtual and in-person meetings.
  • Draft internal and client-facing education pieces regarding timely legislative and regulatory updates, and contribute to and participate in client-facing webinars and seminars throughout the year.
  • Assist as needed with the performance and delivery of the Compliance Solutions team's client-facing services, which include Form 5500 filing, nondiscrimination testing, and Plan Document drafting.
  • Cross-collaborate with other An Insurance Distribution Platform Company teams, including Corporate Legal, Risk Management, and technology innovation teams to work on projects or manage issues related to An Insurance Distribution Platform Company's employee benefits practice. This work could include contract review, making recommendations related to legal or risk management practices, developing policies and protocols to minimize risk exposure, and overseeing the creation of technology-enabled solutions delivered to broker-consultants.
  • Provide sales support to broker-consultants, including the production or review of sales materials, and attendance in and contributions to prospective client and finalist meetings.

Education/Experience:
  • J.D., licensed to practice and in good standing with state's bar
  • 2-4 years of experience in a firm, in-house setting, or government position, counseling and working with employers on matters related to health and welfare plan compliance, including ERISA, the Affordable Care Act, HIPAA, COBRA, the Internal Revenue Code, etc.
  • Experience in or knowledge of insurance industry is a plus
