Description:

Specific skills sought are:
  • At least three years of experience handling labor and employment matters, exclusively or predominantly as part of the candidate's overall legal practice, for public sector clients such as city, county, and/or state agencies;
  • Experience with public safety (police and fire) matters, including, but not limited to, the Public Safety Procedural Bill of Rights Act (“POBR”) and the Firefighter Procedural Bill of Rights Act (“FBOR”).
  • Experience with preparing a labor and employment case for trial/arbitration including actually participating in trials and/or arbitrations and in administrative proceedings;
  • Knowledge and experience of public sector labor and employment law and labor relations, including, but not limited to negotiating collective bargaining agreements, assisting clients in handling employee grievances, assisting clients on bargaining obligations, representing clients in administrative proceedings before Public Employment Relations Board (“PERB”) , and employee benefit/PERS issues;
  • Experience in workplace investigation, including, but not limited to, conducting witness and subject interviews and reviewing relevant documents, as part of case preparation/evaluation or workplace investigations;
  • Excellent writing skills including, but bot limited to, Investigation Reports, Notices of Intent to Discipline, and post-evidentiary hearing Closing Briefs;
  • Ability to handle, manage, and interface with clients with limited supervision and oversight, while conveying a level of professionalism and competence on legal and strategic aspects of labor and employment law issues;
  • Excellent legal research and analysis skills and demonstrated ability to perform comprehensive research on specific timelines;
  • Experience supporting more senior attorneys in providing labor and employment advice, both verbally and in preparing legal memoranda and opinions;
  • Willingness to take ownership of a matter and ability to develop a litigation plan and/or course of action;
  • The desired candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit and be a self-starter, with a strong work ethic, impeccable judgment, and excellent follow-through skills;
