Looking for a Litigation Superstar! The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, a national leader in public parks, recreation, and the regulation of real estate development, is searching for a lawyer to join our in-house Litigation Team located in Riverdale, Maryland. The Commission serves Montgomery and Prince George's Counties, the two largest counties in Maryland with a growing and diverse population totaling approximately 2 million residents. As the newest member of the Litigation team, you will join a group of lawyers who are responsible for finding sophisticated legal solutions for a variety of litigation and employment law matters.

This position will be responsible for the majority of the Commission's worker's compensation work program, under the supervision of an experienced senior attorney. This position may be filled at the Associate or Assistant Level.

Our ideal Assistant candidate has:
  • Entry-level experience handling routine personal injury litigation, employment law, and/or workers compensation matters for private or public clients, along with a demonstrated familiarity with state or local government and/or administrative law.
  • Entry-level experience reviewing medical records.
  • Ability to consult with other lawyers and manage client expectations while aligning competing priorities within a demanding portfolio.
  • A self-starter mentality as well as the desire and ability to take on and master new legal concepts and unfamiliar areas of law.
  • A dynamic, confident, professional style, supported by the technical self-confidence needed to develop creative, legally sound solutions.
  • The successful candidate will also demonstrate a knack for drafting and reviewing legal documents and translating technical legal concepts into oral and written communication, which connects with the intended audience.

Our ideal Associate candidate has:
  • Mid-level experience handling moderately complex or difficult litigation, employment law and/or workers compensation for private or public clients, along with a demonstrated familiarity with state or local government and/or administrative law.
  • In-house experience working on, or coordinating, a team with other lawyers and managing client expectations on a variety of legal matters, while aligning competing priorities within a demanding portfolio.
  • Mid-level experience reviewing medical records.
  • Ability to work semi-independently with occasional support and direction from supervising attorneys.
  • A self-starter mentality as well as the desire and ability to take on and master new legal concepts and unfamiliar areas of law.
  • A dynamic, confident, professional style, supported by the technical self-confidence needed to develop creative, legally sound solutions.

The successful candidate will also demonstrate a knack for drafting and reviewing legal documents, and translating technical legal concepts into oral and written communication, which connects with the intended audience.

Minimum Qualifications:
Associate General Counsel:
  • Law degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association.
  • Four (4) years progressively responsible experience in the practice of law, including one (1) year of legal experience in civil litigation, administrative litigation, workers' compensation, or employment law.
  • A valid license, in good standing, to practice law in the state of Maryland, or in another state, subject to attainment of a valid license to practice law in the State of Maryland during the initial probationary period.
  • Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required of the position.

Assistant General Counsel:
  • Law degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association.
  • A valid license, in good standing, to practice law in the state of Maryland, or in another state, subject to attainment of a valid license to practice law in the state of Maryland during initial probationary period.
  • Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and
  • regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations,
  • suspensions, or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required of their position.
